What if my child struggles socially?

Speech difficulties associated with Childhood Apraxia of Speech can impact social interactions, particularly in group or fast-paced environments.

Children with Childhood Apraxia of Speech (CAS) may find communication more effortful. This can sometimes affect how easily they interact with others, especially in fast-paced or group environments.

Supporting communication can help build confidence and participation over time. This may include:

  • providing opportunities for successful communication

  • supporting the child to express themselves in ways that work for them

  • working collaboratively with educators where appropriate

It is also important to consider the environment. When communication difficulties are understood and supported, children are more likely to have positive social experiences.

Focusing on the child’s strengths, as well as their communication needs, can support confidence and connection with others over time.
